An Very English Picnic

As I mentioned yesterday Wal is in South Africa and I’ve going a bit bonkers.  MY friends took pity on me and we organized 2 playdates, one yesterday and one today.

We all trooped out to Manchester Airport for a bit of plane spotting which is free if you don’t drive (you can take the train then walk over).  The weather forcast called for heavy rain but this didn’t appear to worry them even though I did mention the weather forcast a couple (dozen) times.  When we got there is was coooooold.  It’s very open and flat (as you’d expect what with it being an airport and all) so the wind just whipped around.  The kids didn’t appear to mind.

I took some really nice photos of planes although I felt like a complete fraud, you should see some of the lenses these guys have.

So then it was lunch time.  Just in time for the rain and booy did it rain.  My picnic blanket which I had optomistically packed sat in the trunk unused.

We all piled into our cars (well Byrney piled into my car as she had been dropped off and was planning on taking the train home) and ate lunch.  We were all wet and steamy.  Apparently the only thing stopping it from being a truly authentic english picnic was the lack of sand.

Oh and a flask of hot tea.

Aha, now I understand your lens envy – I always feel a total fraud there too! I stand and look at the cameras while SH looks at planes through his binoculars and covets other people’s radio transmitters (he’s such an anorak).

I love going there so if you’re ever at a loose end and want some company there, just give me a shout!

Ha! No I’m not really lusting big zoom lenses. It’s all about prime and wide angle lenses for me.

Ever since we’ve been here I haven’t been able to look at your awesome pictures! I think it must be the computer we’re on. We’ll we staying with someone else soon, maybe I’ll be able to see them then. Funny, it was only a year, but your posts make me a little home sick for Manchester. As for your offer, (sorry it’s taken me so long to respond) that is amazingly sweet of you, but I’m afraid you wouldn’t be able to package all the things on my list:)
