the one where I’ve got a school aged child

So it’s Wednesday of the first week of Squidge’s academic career.  She has been talking about going to “big girl school” all summer long so when the day finally arrived she was over the moon!  We’ve taken lots of pictures and are attempting to get into some sort of routine. Up at 7:30 out the door by 8:30- the morning routine is going well.  Back by 3:30, snack, play time, dinner, bath (if it’s a bath day), story, cuddles and bed by 7:30 (8ish if it’s a bath night).  It’s all so regimented and I feel like I’m rushing around trying to get everything done before bed.  Squidge needs 12 hours of sleep. She’ll actually sleep more if I let her but 12 is her minimum.

As far as we can tell she’s settled into school well.  She loves it and is full of beans when she gets home.   We’re still trying to get her moved to a school closer to our new house.  If it happens this year it will probably be around Christmas time, if not then next September.  Her current school is great and she’s happy there but the traffic is a nightmare.   We have to go through a major road leading into Manchester so get stuck in traffic with all those commuting into Manchester.  No chance of walking to school even though it’s less than a mile from our house.  Keeping my fingers crossed we get something closer soon.

I’ve been very emotional this week. Hormones or mourning the loss of my child or both… no one will ever know!  I’m trying to get into a routine as well here at the house.  I still have so much to unpack that it feels like I’m not getting anywhere even though logically I know I’m making progress.  As soon as I get things unpacked then I’m going to seriously start on the remodel.  First the office as that is where the majority of our boxed crap needs to go.  It’s also a fairly straightforward remodel.  Removing built in wardrobes, painting and sanding.  Should take me a couple of weeks.   I’m aiming for end of September so watch this space.

We would have to walk down a very busy A road that has slip roads/exits leading to the M60. The pavement/sidewalks end as you get to the slip roads/exits so we would have to dodge some heavy traffic. Not a good idea!
