Whenever Wal visits his parents his mother sends him home with some tat. Things that he left behind when he went off to University over TWENTY FIVE years ago! Usually the stuff goes right in the charity shop bag or in the bin. She sometimes sends him home with something he left there when he moved back to England 8 years ago, an old stained t-shirt or coaching plaque. This time she sent him home with a table he bought for the kitchen at his old house. It never made it out of the box because it was too big for the space. Why they didn’t return it when they went back to buy a smaller table I do not know. We stuck in the garage and I thought I might freecycle it when I had a chance. Once the office was finished I was suddenly happy about this bit of tat!! It might only be a 15 year old Ikea table, a plain unfinished wood table but a little paint and it would tart up nicely. I’m assuming it’s pine but I’m no expert.
Then I remembered the table he came home with and decided it would make a perfect desk. Clean and simples! I stained it with two coats of warm oak stain.
I then primed and
painted the legs white
and used a matt varnish to seal the top of the desk.
And there you have it our new desk. I’m not really loving the white legs so I’m going to paint them a color called Boy Racer Blue. I have a test pot of it from when we were deciding what color to pain the office. I’m hoping it’s enough to do the base of the desk. So there you have it my very first furniture project. Not too shabby if I do say so myself.
