Decorating: Family Room

Eames DAR chair

You’d think after our marathon kitchen remodel I would have avoided doing any DIY for a while. Any other sane person would have but when you buy a fixer-upper the project never end!

We had moved our table into the kitchen so the “diningroom” was now redundant and I wanted to turn it into a family room.  I made many Polyvore collections and made some Pinterest boards for inspiration.  I knew I wanted to go for something that was something eclectic and quirky and modern… on a budget.

I’m still totally in love with mid century furniture and luckily for me that style of furniture looks right at home in my 1930’s semi.

It’s not always easy to get the look you want when you’re short on cash.  I’m constantly looking at website looking for inspiration. I find blogs I like and pin things that catch my eye and I also look for reproductions of designer items. I also watch any local FaceBook groups I’m in for bargains.  Folks are always posting items they’d like to sell. This is how I managed to buy 2 John Lewis brown leather sofas for £300- score!  Now that I had the key pieces of furniture in the room I needed to add one more item that was really going to add a bit of interest.  I’ve always loved Eames DAR armchair but with prices ranging from £180-£300 that was never going to happen.

What could happen and what is well within my budget is a reproduction Eames chair.  I found a lovely website filled with reproductions of all the design classics.  Metro Furniture has every style and colour imaginable. If you’re into mid century furniture then you really need to check them out- I’d buy everything on their site if I could!

Some of my favourite pieces are

The website is easy to navigate, it’s one of my bugbears so I was happy about that. The product arrived very quickly- took just a few days.  Assembly was super easy as the chair comes in 2 pieces- just the base and the seat all put together by 4 screws.

It looks really nice in my newly decorated family room and adds just the right touch.
