10 Kitchen Gadgets You Can’t live Without

photo collage of 10 kitchen gadgets

I’m using the term ‘gadget’ a little loose here but they are all gadgets in their unique little way.  I love kitchen ‘stuff ‘ and have been collecting little bits here and there. I honestly don’t know what I would do without some of these things.

1. Potato Ricer
If you’re looking for smooth and creamy mashed potatoes then this is the gadget for you! Wal raves about my mashed potatoes and this is my secret weapon.
2. Tongs
Tongs w/ a rubber tip is something I use all the time! 90% of my pans are T-fal and they’d be trashed if I didn’t have rubber tipped tongs.
3. Strawberry Huller
We eat a lot of strawberries and this nifty little gadget pulls the green stem off the strawberries and they’re ready to eat. Less waste than if I used a knife!
4. Measuring spoon
I have 3 sets of measuring spoons but these are by far my go to set! It’s just one spoon and you push/pull to make the spoon to the size you need. Ingenious and I love it!
5. Cheese Knives
The need to have the correct cheese knife should not be underestimated.
6. Strawberry Slicer
The best thing since sliced bread! Transforms the simplest of dishes with some sliced strawberries in a jiffy!
7. Citrus Juicer
This is a simple and easy to use citrus juicer- it’s very effective.
8. Apple Corer and Slicer
The perfect way to  core and slice apples. When you want a quick snack this is the gadget for you. I use it to slice my apples when I make pie.  Job done in no time.
9. Egg Whisk
Easiest way to whisk an egg- I don’t really know what I did without it!
10. Cheese Graters
Can you ever have too many? Each one grates a little bit different. I have to resist the urge to buy more!

I love a good kitchen gadget and have far too many. In our house the tongs are known as The Nose Nippers, for obvious reasons. Most used are the food processor (Magimix) which does lots of chopping, blending, juicing and obviously mixing. I have a Kitchenaid stand mixer which takes up a lot of room but does make lovely cakes. Speaking of which, the measuring spoons and cake tester get a lot of use too. Basically, anything they sell in Lakeland, I can find a use for it.

Oh I’ll have to do another post about by big ticket kitchen gadgets. We’re big fans of KitchenAid here! OH has banned me from Lakeland- I kind of lose my mind in there a little bit. Also when I visit family in America I usually need a suitcase just for the kitchen gadgets! I bought Le Creuset, a KitchenAid stand mixer and food processor from the US. The good old days of amazing exchange rates!

Ironically for someone that tries her best not to eat processed food, when I got my first food processor it changed everything – and made a ton of recipes more accessible. Irritatingly now I can’t think of any off the top of my head as they all seem so de rigeur but I’m sure you know what I mean. I love my avocado stone remover and slicer (whatever the technical term is for one!!!) and the electric whisk takes all the pain out of cheat day banoffee pie… Also, I want a Vitamix. I’m convinced my life would be complete if I got a Vitamix.
