Around the house

I have a habit of picking up bits and bobs for the house and then they sit around, for ages and ages. I’m not sure if it’s a bad habit or not, I like to think of is as forward thinking. I’m a thrifty soul deep down inside but am I thrifty by nature or necessity? Who knows! Who cares!

As I mentioned, I have been picking up things I want to hang on the walls and this weekend I finally had enough of moving little piles of prints and dusting my decoupaged deer as it sat abandoned in the corner.  I had asked him indoors to put up the pictures as he’s much more conscientious about things like making sure they’re level but I got tired of waiting. Plus, I am woman hear me roar and I don’t need no stinking man!

I started out in the kitchen and put up my metal ‘vintage’ signs. It’s not finished but the plan is to keep adding to the wall as I collect them.

I then turned my attention to the family room. This room is still a work in progress as it’s a room without a purpose. It was the dining room before the kitchen remodel. Now that we have a kitchen diner this room is our second living room. There isn’t a TV in here and him indoors tends to work in this room so it’s usually cluttered with his paperwork.  Just because it’s not well used by us doesn’t mean I don’t want it to look pretty. It’s the room we tend to hang out in when we have friends over, while the kids are in the front room.

Again this wall isn’t finished and I’ll keep adding things to it as I find them.  A lot of the things up on the wall are things that mean something to me. The Black Dog bag is from Cape Cod and reminds me of home and of the fantastic holiday we went on a couple of years ago with a good friend.  The Hokey Cokey (although it’s Hokey Pokey in the US) reminds me of Wal and my working as a waitress while at Uni. The prints on the left are Portuguese. I could go on and on. I have some vintage looking postcards of a Merry-go-round that still need to go up. The deer is a papier-mache thing I picked up from HobbyCraft over Christmas. I actually picked up 2 more as they were on sale for £1! Bargain! Although I’m not really sure what I’m going to do with them all, maybe give them away?

How do you decorate your house? Do you have a ‘theme’ you like to stick with or are you a bit more scatter gun like me?

Brilliant idea to keep adding things as you go along. I’m a little bit in love with your kitchen signs and that ‘hokey cokey’ one. Pinning now!
