Sharpie Dyeing

A few months ago I decided I needed to get a bit more involved with some of the activities Squidge does so I began volunteering at Brownies. I’ve filled in the paperwork to become an official Brownie leader and I couldn’t be happier. As part of volunteering I’m trying to find things for the girls to do to get badges and really just to have a bit of fun.

While searching on Pinterest I found a craft I thought the girls would love and that would be easy to do and most importantly would fit in time wise- Sharpie Dyeing. It’s a really easy project and you only need 4 things- Sharpies, a cotton t-shirt (preferably pre-shrunk), some rubbing alcohol/surgical spirits and a dropper.

The only thing you need to watch out for is that you don’t get the color on the back of the shirt. You can grab some cardboard and place it inside the shirt to keep the front and back from touching and transferring the color.

Sharpie Dyeing Step by Step

It really is a simple 3 step project

1- Use the Sharpies to draw on your shirt

2- Fill the dropper w/ surgical spirits & drop it on the design

3- Let it dry

It’s such an easy project and perfect for kids and you really can’t screw it up. The kids at Brownies had a blast- we used a cup and rubber band to keep the front and back apart.
