I once heard a publisher talking about book covers and how they need to take into account cultural differences when they’re deciding on the artwork. The example they used was how in the USA a book about a murder could have a field of red poppies but in the UK they needed to change it to something else. Poppies are a very emotive symbol here and it’s one I love. I love how people still come together to remember.
Every year we meet on Remembrance Sunday with Squidge and her Brownies troupe and they’re asked to wear a poppy. This year I thought I would turn my hand to making one, while still donating the the Poppy Appeal.
This is a really quick craft and one that can be used to begin the dialogue about what it means to wear the Poppy.
