Time for a proper sandwich


It’s a running joke with my friend Sally that I am perpetually disappointed with food here in England.  I am almost always deeply let down by my menu choices when we go out for lunch.  I think the key to fixing this is to only eat foods that I don’t have an American reference to.  So that means I can’t eat pizza, or tuna sandwiches or lasagna or fish & chips- you get the idea.

The idea of pickle is a foreign concept to me, in my country when you say pickle you think a big green sour salty pickled cucumber. I love to try new things so when I saw that The English Provender Co. was running a competition on Foodies100 I thought I had to give it a try.  

After doing a bit of research and by research I asked him indoors what his favourite sandwich to have w/ pickle.  He asked what type of pickle and I showed him this…


after a bit of a think it was decided we would try the chunky and the only option a hunk of mature cheddar sandwich.  My taste tester was a huge fan and had 2 sandwiches. We’re looking forward to trying the other flavours.


I feel a little silly writing this down but…

  • 2 slices of bread, whichever is your favourite.  We’re partial to Hovis granary.
  • cheese, I used an extra mature farmhouse cheddar.
  • slather your favourite English Provender Co Proper Pickle
