This year we’ve decided to spend some time visiting friends who live far and wide in the UK. Instead of booking the closest Travelodge or staying with friends, although we’re doing a fair bit of that too, we’ve decided to find funky places to stay.
There are some really amazing places in the UK and here are some of our favourite.
Skye Shepherd Huts
If you’re looking for a place to escape from it all then the shepherd hut in Skye look like the ideal location. They’re described as “out onto grass-covered moorland and a shimmering lochan backed by a low fringe of mountains” I sounds like the perfect place to unwind and unplug from everything for a few days.
Price: £80 per night (dog friendly, £10 each, 2 dog max)

The Four Sisters Boatel
Set in the heart of Edinburgh the luxury Four Sisters Boatel is a four star, self catering, canal barge. The Four Sisters Boatel is in easy walking distance of all that Edinburgh has to offer, it’s ideally situated for shopping, culture and anything a visitor to Edinburgh is looking for. Perfect for kids!

Big Green Bus
An unusual retreat in the middle of East Sussex- The bus sits on an amazing plot of land in the heart of the Sussex countryside, you’ll find total privacy while staying in the Big Green Bus. The bus sleeps 6, has a full size kitchen and lounge downstairs with a log burner. You won’t be roughing it as there’s a toilet and wet room!

If you’re looking for an adults only getaway, the Crafty Camping is the glamping site for you. It’s set in a peaceful woodland of West Dorset. The accommodation offered is one of a kind, hand crafted with several options available. It is a private, quiet setting very close to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

The Belle Tout
The lighthouse at Beachy Head looks like a fabulously funky place to stay. The lighthouse was built in 1832. It’s been a tea shop, moved because of erosion and was partially destroyed. There are amazing views of the English Channel.
